Governing Body

The governing body consists of a board of nine volunteer directors. The board of directors is elected by the membership for a three-year term.

The board of directors consists of community members and family members of persons with disabilities. They are accountable and legally responsible for the governance of the organization.

The Board governs the agency through policy directives and through the actions of the Chief Executive Officer. The governing style of the board focuses on strategic leadership, emphasizing:

• Being proactive, not reactive
• A clear distinction between the role of the board of directors and the staff's responsibilities
